Workplace Violence Prevention

Workplace Violence (WPV) Prevention

gained the most notoriety by the use of the term "Going Postal". This originated, from 1983 and onward, due to several instances of U.S. Postal employees being killed, or injured, by former or current co-workers. Of course, workplace violence has been around as long as man has; the continuing evolution of media provides the up-to-date, mass coverage of such events.

Today, the media has reported all forms of workplace violence, in all types of business environements and public gathering areas. Workplace violence does not always mean a fatality, but has various modes and weapons.

The term "Active Shooter", is a person, or persons, who are actively involved in the attack of people in a work environment, either killing or injuring them.

Of recent, "Bullying" is another aspect now associated with workplace violence and not just in the schoolyard.

"Domestic violence" is another issue that spills over from the home to the workplace, with potentially fatal consequences.

There are regular training scenarios conducted by local law enforcement to help them in the repsonse to such violent acts, including the most extreme violence of an active shooter. The training is interactive with the community and private industry when made available. Businesses, community organizations and schools, continue to educate themselves in the prevention, or response to, a workplace violence-type incidents.
